What’s Oakwell Like

Up to 4,700 away fans can go behind the goal in the North Stand behind the goal. Usually the away fans are housed on one side of the stand, near to the West Stand and adjacent to the players tunnel.

The views of the pitch are good and unobstructed.

Options for food include the standard fare of pies, sausage rolls, burgers, hot dogs and chips. For those who fancy an alcoholic beverage, there’s Carling, Worthington and Kingstone Press cider on offer.

What’s On in Barnsley

Thursday and Friday at The Civic Theatre (S70 2HZ) has Surge 360, a dance performance, with tickets just £5.

If the outdoors is more your thing, then there’s Dearne Valley RSPB (S73 0YF) is £5 entry (£2.50 for children, first child is free), which has a visitor centre, café, guided walks, play area and nature trails.

The Elsecar Heritage Centre (S74 8HJ) has a visitor centre, a café, several shops and a heritage railway. Entry is free, but some activities are chargeable.

You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to a pre-match pint in Barnsley!

The Metrodome Leisure Complex, which has a bar inside, is very popular with away fans and very close to the stadium.

Other alternatives near to Oakwell are, the Dove Inn (S70 1TP – 0.4 miles) and the Barnsley East Dene Working Mens Club (S70 1UD – 0.5 miles).

There is a Wetherspoons called the Silkstone Inn (S70 1SN – 0.7 miles). Trains to Barnsley

Barnsley Railway Station is 0.6 miles away and served by trains running between Sheffield and Leeds.

Trains leave Swansea at 10:52, 11:53 and 12:52 for the near 6 hour trip.

There are no train back to Swansea after the game, so an overnight stay is the only option if you’re travelling by train!
