Stadium expansion?
You have got to be kidding me.
Towards the tail end of Clement, there were patches of empty seats everywhere. For at least his last 4 games.
We've still got tossers in the crowd who walk out at 4.30 if the rugby is kicking off at 5pm, even if our game is in the balance.
I know of 2 people who buy a season ticket every year just to watch the Chelsea and Man Utd game respectively. The rest of the time they try and sell their ticket on or just don't bother turning up. If we went down they wouldn't give a shit about renewing.
We have, and have always had, a very fickle element to our fanbase. Based on going to games for nearly 30 years I believe our hardcore fanbase now is only around 10,000, before Premier League probably 7,000/8,000. Because of PL I think we might have gained a few thousand.
The last 4 years have proved that we can never take for granted our position at this level, surely we should not be so arrogant to think we cannot go down, so it would be a huge mistake to expand the stadium and invest faith in fair-weather Johnny come latelys who are only with us for Premier League football but whose arses you wouldn't see for dust if we went down.
13-15k in a 25-30k stadium in the Championship would not be a good look. Unless you're a fan of large sponsorship tarpaulins......
