U23s v Chelsea

edited September 2018 in The Lounge
Just watched the last 15 minutes. Lost 1-0 to Chelsea, all Swansea over  the time I watched, no final ball. Olly Cooper looked good

  • Chelsea were disappointing, created very little, as did the Swans, draw would have been a fair result. Good to see Ethan and Kwame Ampadu at the game.

Swans U23's are going through a bit of a transition at the moment, 2 new centre backs in Cooper and Joe Lewis, while Rumanian Dulca and summer signing from Belgium Paulet struggled to get on top of the Chelsea midfielders. Over the last couple of seasons Swans have always had pace out wide on either flank and goals from Byers in midfield and Oli up front but at the moment Cullen, despite plenty of skill does not possess pace out on the right while Biabi will never be as prolific as Oli. From the bench Oli Cooper has plenty of skill as does Kees De Boer and for both of them this season is a learning curve. Jordan Garrick is being eased slowly back into games after his hamstring problem last season and no doubt his pace will be welcomed out wide while today he played a lone striker role through the middle.
Brandon Cooper had the two best chances, both from headers, one going wide while the second brought a very good save from Chelsea's substitute keeper.

Thanks Colin, Did we buy in Oli Cooper
  • No, he came through the academy, I believe his dad is Kevin Cooper, ex-Wolves and Cardiff midfielder. Not a prolific scorer for the U18's but he possesses plenty of pace and skill and this season will be a good learning curve for him.
