Highlights of our league cup win

Just watched extended highlights of our League Cup win on Sky. Didn’t really appreciate how good we were at the time. It’s like looking back at a sex take of your ex wife and realising how good she was in the scratcher

  • There was a great quote from one of the Bradford players after the game - remember they had beaten a few premier league teams on the way to the final - and he said that Swansea were so good they wanted to close us down and get in our faces but they were not able to foo it because the ball and players were in such constant motion that it as like chasing ghosts. That era was the pinnacle of our play.
Watching the lack of pass and move in the second half v Charlton was a clear indication of where we are going backwards.
Having got the lead against a tired and inexperienced Charlton team we should have been spreading the play, making them chase and picking them off as they tired. Instead we stopped moving, lot the ability to keep the ball and ended up struggling to secure the win. As pointed out elsewhere Charlton were largely an U23 team with no less than 14 first team players missing.
We should have done to them what we did to Bradford on that glorious freezing afternoon.

    Jackareme,
I think most fans were questioning Ki playing at centre back when you consider most probably Bradford's most effective dangerman was c/forward Hanson. Sadly for Bradford it was a master stroke tactically by Laudrup in not only preventing balls into our danger area but in setting a team up to kill the game off before midway through the first half. Oh to have De Guzman, Pablo and Michu in our current team.

No way were Charlton like an U23 team. Yes they had inexperience in Davison and subs Doughty and Vennings but the remainder-Phillips, Matthews, Purrington, Lockyer, Pearce, Pratley, Morgan, Gallagher and Taylor had all played through the season.  Charlton had a lot of first team players missing but they were nowhere near an U23 team.
  • @Jackareme could not agree more about where we were and where we are now. No doubt the Dime-wit troll will have other thoughts.
  • Cheers for the link @konnar ; That was great and depressing at the same time.
