Swans donate food to homeless

A nice touch from the club :+1:

Swansea City may have had to cancel their trip to Middlesbrough for Saturday’s crucial Championship clash, but the EFL fixture postponement has at least benefitted the city’s homeless.

While Steve Cooper’s squad were training at the Liberty Stadium this morning ahead of the trip to the Riverside Stadium, the EFL postponed all fixtures until April 3 due to the current Coronavirus threat.

It meant the club had to cancel their scheduled flight from Cardiff Airport to Teesside, and left the club’s head chef Chris Watkins with 35 meals expertly prepared for the players and staff going spare.

So rather than confine the packed lunches of paninis, chicken breasts, wedges and bread rolls to the waste, the club contacted nearby City Church who were delighted to receive the food for distribution to the homeless.

City Church, who are based in Dyfatty, run a crucial ministry programme called i58 which provides free meals and clothing support for the homeless on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.

The meals were delivered in time for tonight’s Friday night café service and gratefully received by senior minister Michael Williams and church staff.
