Swans Player Profiles

edited June 2020 in Swansea City
We've decided to launch a new feature on the website providing player profiles for every Swans player who has played for the club!

To make this mammoth task a little easier, we'll be releasing a player profile for each player on their birthday, so we'll kick things off with...

...who turns 42 today!

Hopefully this new feature will provide some light alternative reading/entertainment during such unprecedented times.

  • Thanks for that, look forward to reading more of these :+1:
  • Another former Swan who celebrates his birthday today is Nigel French, who turns 52 today.

    Remember him from the mid-80s?

    Some further information on Nigel,

His first season saw Merthyr win the Championship of the Midland Division, and the following season the Championship of the Premier Division, and promotion to the Conference. With the club winning the Welsh Cup in 1987, Nigel’s first season at Penydarren Park saw him play in both legs against Italian side Atalanta, winning the first leg at Penydarren Park, before losing 2-0 in Italy. He was also capped for the Wales Semi-Professional side against England during his first season with Merthyr. Nigel made 3 league appearances, two as substitute for Merthyr in the GM Vauxhall Conference during season 1989/90, and after a period on the sidelines with glandular fever joined Haverfordwest County in the Abacus Welsh League National Division, winning the Championship later in the season. After making appearances for Abergavenny(season 1990/91) and a spell back at Haverfordwest, he joined Barry Town for the start of the 1993/94 season, but halfway through the season returned to Haverfordwest. At the end of the season, Barry had not only won the Welsh League First Division Championship, but had also won the Welsh Cup. He finished his playing career with Swansea Senior League side Port Tennant Colts, working for the Royal Mail as a postman, and for a period he was seconded to NTL in Llansamlet.

  • Thanks for the additional info @Colin_swansea and for letting us use the contents of your book also :)
  • Was there a quote from Terry Yorath about  Nigel Frech ,
" he may get there he may not "
Seem to remember  after one game that Yorath said that ?
  • The latest player profile to be added is David D'Auria - who celebrates his 50th Birthday today.
  • A couple of days after his 70th Birthday, we've now added Terry Yorath to our player profiles.... well he did play one game after all :D
  • Just a week late for his 72nd Birthday, but we've now added Dai Davies to the Player Profiles page on the site.
  • Thanks for that Colin. Hope everyone is doing alright, all contributors, webmaster,Jacks everywhere  during this odd moment in history.
  • It's been a while since our last Player Profile (sorry) but former winger John Hodge has now been added :)
  • I enjoyed reading about John Hodge but I think you've got his date of birth wrong. Surely it should be April 1969, not 1959.
  • Thanks for the heads up about the typing error @JohnnieC - have corrected it now :)
  • This week's Player Profile is of The Anfield Iron - Tommy Smith :#
  • Having watched the latest Star Wars film over the weekend.... we've now added Keith 'Sky' Walker to the list of Swans Player Profiles on the site :)
