Had the season not been interrupted we would have welcomed top of the table Leeds United to the Liberty yesterday afternoon.
I'm sure we have all missed the excitement and anticipation leading up to this fixture.
It brings back memories for me of two other past fixtures.
Clearly the 5-1 win on our debut appearance in the top flight can never be forgotten.
However another much earlier game stands out for me as well. It occurred on April 11 th 1964, almost exactly 56 years ago when a Leeds team destroyed us at the Vetch on its way to a memorable stay in Division 1. The score was 0-3 but we were very much second best all that afternoon to a team full of players who were about to become household names.
Reaney, Bremner, Charlton ,Hunter, Giles, not to mention Collins, Cooper and Peacock ( who scored twice early on for Leeds ).
There was also Gary Sprake in goal ,making his debut ,after we had let him go to Leeds the previous season ;as he had not been the number 1 goalkeeper in the Swansea schools team of the previous season.
Does anyone know/remember who that other goalkeeper was for the schools team ? Whoever it was they didn't do much for us.
