I think the current issues both public health and governmental make football seem trivial, yet I cant help feel there is a gap. Perhaps you just need something to look forward to on a regular basis instead of the current world of one day seemingly no different to the next with little prospect of anything radically changing soon.
What has been interesting is watching the "experiment" of the current Bundesliga. I normally enjoy the German games on BT, partly because its a league that consistently has great atmosphere throughout its stadiums. Yet the current version is a strange reincarnation involving players seemingly playing at below full pace with no crowd interaction. A game such as last night's crucial Dortmund-Bayern encounter would ordinarily have been a full blooded passionate affair in front of a huge and noisy crowd. While the players seemed motivated enough the lack of fans made the whole thing seem somehow unimportant.
What is also interesting is the lack of home wins and also the stats on refereeing decisions which apparently no longer favour home teams as much as when there is a crowd present.
