Swans Under 18s draw with Forest

Swansea City Under-18s twice came from behind to earn a point against Nottingham Forest at Landore.

Iwan Morgan and Geoff Bony - son of former Swans favourite Wilfried - were on target with neat finishes in the Professional Development League clash.

Despite going 1-0 down to Detlef Esapa Osong's first-half strike, Byron Anthony's side responded just after the break with 15-year-old Morgan levelling.

Then with one of his first touches after climbing off the bench, Bony cancelled out Kyle McAdam's fortuitous goal to ensure a share of the spoils for the hosts six minutes from time.

The hard-earned draw means the young Swans have taken four points from a possible six in the space of three days.

Anthony made three changes to the side that began Wednesday's 1-0 win over Colchester United; handing recalls to Rio Campbell, Panashe Makokowe and Jada Mawongo.

Campbell had the hosts' first sight on goal with a long-range attempt that was easily gathered by Forest keeper Alex Akers.

But the Swans fell behind in the 20th minute as they were caught in possession, before Osong drilled past Josh Hutchings from a tight angle.

Osong went close again soon after with a curling effort that drifted inches wide of the far post.

Nevertheless, the hosts hit back four minutes into the second half.

Campbell was alert to capitalise on sloppy defending before feeding Morgan, who clinically tucked away the opportunity to open his account for the club.

Forest looked to regain the lead with Osong shooting just wide, while Hutchings did well to claw away Alexandros Sarantis' clever flick.

But the visitors did edge their noses back in front with a quarter of an hour remaining - albeit in extremely fortuitous circumstances.

Defending a dangerous attack, Scott Butler's attempted clearance ricocheted off McAdam before going through the legs of Hutchings and creeping over the line.

The Swans almost replied as Joel Cotterill's goalbound free-kick was well tipped away by Akers.

Anthony introduced Bony - son of former Swansea favourite Wilfried - for the latter stages in place of the hardworking Morgan.

And within two minutes, he made an immediate impact with one of his first touches of the ball; arriving in the right place to direct home Ben Lloyd's inviting low centre.

  • This is very encouraging - when a 15 year old is scoring in an U18 game - also I think Bony Jnr is only about 12 (LOL) remembering him towering over his peers.

Seems Congreve is making some waves as well. Enjoy reading the posts of our guest bookers who are in touch with these younger age group players.

Mind you (in context) Jude Bellingham is also U18 🤓

  • I think Geoffroy is older. the 12 year old is his younger brother, Orphee
