Sad to hear the death of Paul Mariner

edited July 10 in General Football

For those of a certain era, Paul Mariner was a footballer of some style and elegance. Superficially a traditional tall striker who was an excellent header of the ball, however his alround game was very exceptional and not traditional at all.

I remember him in an Ipswich Town team who played some excellent football under Bobby Robson, where they won an FA Cup and the UEFA cup, both with huge contributions from Paul.

Fortunately for Wales his appearances for England coincided with a very strong Welsh team who were regular winners in matches against England, otherwise perhaps my memories of him wouldnt be so fond.

Anyway very sad to hear of his death at only 68 of brain cancer. At least his family were with him when he died, and I presume there will be some mention of him at the final tomorrow.
