Change to the Subs rule

The EFL have changed the rule on the number of subs that can be used in a match from five back to the three for the oncoming season.

...not that its likely to be an issue for us, but good to know.

also the concussion sub will come into play. not before time.

I wonder what happens if there is more than one, from the same side. Often there are clashes of heads of two players from the same side.

I believe Concussion subs are just a trial applying to the PL and the later stages of the FA cup.

And its 2 per side for a match. I wonder if there will be an increase in concussions in the PL during the season?

  • not according to the Mirror report.

From next season, in the Championship, League One and League Two, teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.

There will also be concussion changes granted, if required in games.

interestingly, the 5 subs rule will be implemented in other countries as International Football Association Board has extended the 5 subs rule until the end of the 2021-22 season.

  • Yes you are right they have extended it to the EFL after pressure from the PFA.
