Williams’ previous deal had been due to expire this coming summer, but he has penned a new deal, which includes the option for an additional year through to 2024.

The 20-year-old impressed when handed his first-team bow in the Carabao Cup games against Reading and Plymouth, winning praise from head coach Russell Martin.

He has also been a regular for the club’s under-23s and Wales Under-21s, whilst training with the first team for the majority of the last two-and-a-half seasons.

Williams has been with the Swans since under-eight level. The central midfielder, whose father Nigel was also a scholar in SA1, progressed through the youth ranks before signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2019.

  • Excellent news , hope he has some first team games before the end of the season .

  • Fantastic, now start playing him or get him out on loan. Do Newport need a CM?

  • Another player to extend his contract is Lincoln Mcfadyen he has committed to 2024 ,

He turns 20 next month a left fullback .

  • Best youngster I've seen since Joe Allen, needs to play

I also like Kyle Joseph, there's something about him and I couldn't believe it when he was pushed out on loan

  • Williams or McFayden the best youngster @Jacktar ?

  • Rumours Dan's off to Dundalk alongside Wales u21s teammates Nathan Shepherd and Joe Adams.
