Watched our U21s v Trefelin yesterday, a good match on a fine playing surface. We had a creditable 5 0 win and deserved it

Both new keepers, Matthews and Mitchell played a half each. Matthews is far more physically developed than Mitchell but neither keeper had much to do, so difficult to judge.

Two new CBs on show, Williams and Blythe I thought Blythe was OK and clearly left footed which is good for variety but Williams was very impressive. He has a real physical presence and looked way more mature than the rest of our players. He also showed a good first touch, good passing ability and although raw, he could develop into a good player for the first team. Also Harry Jones had a fine game in back three and looks like a player for the future.

Abdulai captained the team and was heavily involved in the game, perhaps a loan to League 1/2 should be his next step. Great to see Dan Williams back after injury and he played second half showing glimpses of his class. Destined for first team squad I think, especially if Fulton goes.

MacFayden played LWB in first half and showed up well scoring two goals but young Josh Carey, promoted from U18s, played second half and also showed great skill, beating players and putting in some great crosses which led to goals.

One trialist played as an attacking MF and did OK but probably no better than we currently have.

Generally a good run out for the team and I look forward to next Saturdays match v Stevenage at Landore

Academy is definitely achieving its objective of playing in same style as first team and producing some promising youngsters. Remember Congreve Cotterill and Lloyd, all U18s, played for first team yesterday too.

  • Liverpool U18 3 Swansea U18 1

Played this afternoon , a comprehensive win for Liverpool who were 3 nil up before a consolation late goal by the Swans.

  • Nothing specific on the Swans, but here’s the Liverpool report:
