3 years ago in 2014 – Second half goals from Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony gave Garry Monk a winning start to his Swansea City managererial career, as they hammered Cardiff City 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League. Despite the match being broadcast on Sky Sports, the 20,402 crowd saw the Swans ease past their bitter south Wales rivals, as the home side moved up to 10th place in the table, whilst the Red Dragons plunged deeper into relegation trouble.

Garry Monk in League Two with Swansea12 years ago in 2005 – The 3rd in the table Swans lost 1 nil at Mansfield Town in Coca Cola League Division Two. Kenny Jackett’s team threw away the chance to go top of the table in an incident packed game, which saw Garry Monk sent off in the 2nd half for a 2nd bookable offence – his third time during the 2004/2005 season! Striker Lee Thorpe also made his debut for the Swans at Field Mill in front of the 3,829 crowd.

14 years ago in 2003 – The Swans recorded a crucial 3-1 away win at fellow Nationwide Football League Division Three strugglers Macclesfield Town. Goals from Steve Watkin, Jason Smith and Roberto Martinez gave the Swans their first away win in the league for over a year! Kristian O’Leary scored an own goal in what was a miserable afternoon for the 2,515 crowd – apart from the travelling support of course. Despite the much needed victory, the Swans remained in 23rd place in the league win.

20 years ago in 1997 – The Swans ran out 2-1 winners at Northampton Town in Nationwide Football League Division Three, as Jan Molby’s men recorded their sixth away win of the season to cement 4th position in the table. A crowd of 6,178 saw Paul Brayson and Dave Penney (pen) score for the Swans, who also had Linton Brown sent off late in the game for using an elbow.

25 years ago in 1992 – A first half goal from Jimmy Gilligan earned the Swans a 1-0 win over Torquay United in a Barclays League Division Three at the Vetch Field. The win meant Frank Burrows team moved up a place to 14th in the league table in front of the 3,418 crowd.

31 years ago in 1986 – Goals from Scottish striker Will Foley (2) and David Hough gave the Swans a comfortable 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in front of a Vetch Field crowd of 4,242 in Canon League Division Three. It was a turbulent time at the Vetch, as Tommy Hutchinson’s team lay 2nd from bottom of the table, with the club still in the hand of the Official Receiver.

33 years ago in 1984 – Barry Town held the Canon League Division Two Swans to a 1-1 draw at Jenner Park in the Welsh Cup 5th Round. The Swans were grateful for an 87th minute equaliser from Colin Pascoe to force a reply. John Toshack handed debuts to Roger Mullen and David Hough.

42 years ago in 1975 – An injury time winner from Wales U-23 defender Tony Screen meant the Swans ran out 1 nil winners over Stockport County in the Football League Fourth Division. A Vetch Field crowd of 1,673 celebrated as caretaker-manager Harry Griffiths men moved up two positions to 19th place in the league table.

43 years ago in 1974 – The Swans lost 2-0 at top of the table Colchester United in the Football League Fourth Division. The sending off of Tony Screen made it a miserable afternoon all round for the Harry Gregg’s Swansea City team.
