6 years ago in 2010 – Brendan Rodgers’ mid-table Swans beat Coventry City 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium in the NPower Football League Championship. A crowd of 12,411 saw the Swans take all 3 points thanks to goals in each half from Darren Pratley and Scott Sinclair.9 years ago in 2007 – The Swans left it late to secure their first home league win of the season as two goals in two minutes from Darryl Duffy and Lee Trundle gave the Swans a 2-1 over 3rd placed Carlisle United in Coca-Cola Football League Division One.
The 11,354 Liberty Stadium crowd saw manager Roberto Martinez hand a debut to former Cardiff City and Northern Ireland international forward Warren Feeney. A certain Danny Graham scored for Carlisle from the penalty spot.
14 years ago in 2002 – Nick Cusack’s Swans were soundly beaten 4-0 in the Welsh derby at Wrexham in Nationwide League Division Three in front of a Racecourse Ground crowd of 3,515. The Swans performance lacked pride and passion which escalated tensions off the pitch with some of the away following arguing amongst themselves and goading their North Walian rivals with chants of “Engerlund, Engerlund, Engerlund”. The dismal display meant the Swans dropped to second-from-bottom in the table.
17 years ago in 1999 – Premier League Derby County were held to a goalless draw by the Nationwide League Division Three Swans in a Worthington League Cup 2nd Round 1st Leg game at the Vetch. The 6,260 crowd witnessed a hard working performance from John Hollin’s side which left the tie finely posied for the return leg.
23 years ago in 1993 – Two goals in two second half minutes saw the Swans lose 2 nil at Cambridge United in Endsleigh Insurance League Divison Two. 18 year David Barnhouse was handed his debut by then Swans manager Frank Burrows.
25 years ago in 1991 – The Swans remained the only team in Barclays League Division Three without a league win as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Preston North End at the Vetch Field in front of a 3,170 crowd. An early own goal gave the Swans the lead before Paul Raynor added the second early in the 2nd half but Frank Burrows team were denied the win by a later equaliser. Derek Brazil made his debut for the Swans.
31 years ago in 1985 – Paul Burrows made his Swans debut as they thrashed Wolves 5-1 at Molineux in Canon League Division Three. Goals from Gary Emmanuel, Colin Randell, Robin Turner (2) and Tommy Hutchinson helped John Bond’s team secure the Swans biggest league win since beating Leeds United 5-1 at the Vetch in August 1981!
