During pre season it was clear I believe, we had one strong penalty taker and that was Dhanda, none of the rest of the penalty takers looked either confident or technically good at taking penalties. Normally you only get awarded about 5 penalties a season. We have already missed one , so we can ill afford to miss any others. We need to practice our penalties until we have a couple of players playing every week who are confident and practiced enough to score regularly.
I was surprised that Ollie was the nominated penalty taker. He is good in front of goal but needs practice with his penalties. I thought Barry or Celina might take them for us.
We have a similar issue with free kicks and other dead ball plays. We are using Olsson to take the free kicks, and I don't believe many defences will be overly concerned about them. We need to have some players who can whip the ball in and some who can put the ball in the top and bottom corners consistently. We need a few players out on the practice field until we have some options.
Otherwise it will come to the tight games when scoring a penalty or a free kick will be the difference in getting the right results.
Anybody else slightly concerned?
