One of the things i like the most about Paul Clement is his ability to structure a team and create a discipline around roles and responsibilities and general "shape" (whatever that means).
It makes you less likely to concede - but also makes you predictable - hence clean sheets in half our games (incl Spurs away) but only 5 goals in 8 games (80% by one player).
problem is how far "off road" is a coach prepared to go? and do we have the players who can create the unexpected?
In my opinion in the season to date Fer has been the consistent maverick in our team - not because he is highly creative - but because he does not defend with any form of resolve or discipline. Sanches is undoubtedly another in the maverick mould, and Narsingh could also be in that bracket - but the biggest issue for me in the summer transfer window is that we did not add any creativity to what is a pretty robotic bunch of footballers (dont get me wrong - I love them all - but still you get the point!)
The only player linked who remotely fitted the bill was Chadli - and the club were absolutely correct in not overpaying for him.
So - how do we remain solid and still have some creativity/unpredictability in the final third?
This sounds like a Leroy Fer bashing session - and I know there is a complete player in there trying to get out..but for this week his absence creates some opportunities to experiment.
We cannot go "gung ho" because space for Vardy and Mahrez will be asking for trouble...BUT when we attack what should be the plan?
Looking for forum users to suggest ways of unlocking the opposition - but for me solidity means the same back 4, with 2 out of Leon Carroll and Mesa in front of them.
I would then suggest Narsingh/Sanches and Ayew as mobile/wide players with Tammy through the middle. That my friends leaves one starting spot for a "No. 10 role".
I wonder if this role should be Sanches/Narsingh - or whether we test out the versatiity of Ki. South Korean followers would know better than I whether he has played there before - but he has a shot in both feet and spots a pass a lot quicker than most.
So - in short where is the maverick who can make things happen - who can step up as the modern day Curtis or Trundle or Tommy Mutton :p
Excited for the weekend (as always)!!
