Best wishes to Darren Way

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez carried the good wishes of the club and the fans to former midfielder Darren Way today.

The popular player, who is now at Yeovil, was involved in a serious road traffic accident yesterday afternoon and had to be cut out of his vehicle and flown to hospital in Dorset.

Darren suffered serious arm and leg injuries in the collision, but was this morning released from intensive care.

“It was shocking news,” explained Roberto. “We were being kept informed of his situation yesterday and we were all hoping for good news.

“Thankfully he is now out of intensive care and incidents like this put everything into perspective.

“Darren is a special character and loved by everyone at Swansea City. He is also a fighter and winner and I know he’ll be fine.

“He had a lot of injuries when he was with us here and now when he is starting to enjoy his football again at Yeovil this happens.

“I hope his luck turns because he deserves some more than most. As I said, he’s a winner on the field. On the field he’s lively, has time for everyone and always had a smile on his face, even when he was injured.

“Everyone at Swansea City wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Darren joined the Swans in January 2006 for £150,000 from Yeovil on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The midfielder started his career as an apprentice at Norwich and was a consistent performer for Yeovil after joining them in August 2000.

He returned to Yeovil in the summer.

Supporters wishing to send messages, should e-mail Sara Bradley at [email protected] or Adrian Hopper at [email protected] and they will be posted on the official Yeovil website and passed on to Darren and Steve Bruce, the stadium maintenance technician who was travelling with Darren.
