Why we all need to back the Trust now more than ever

Supporting a football club brings its fair share of ups and downs.

Swansea City supporters perhaps know this more than most – from nearly going out of the Football League altogether in 2003, to becoming a Premier League team in 2011.

Those who go back a bit further, and can remember the late 1970s through to the early 1980s, will tell you a similar story.

Right now, Swansea City is on a downer. Relegation from the Premier League in May 2018 was a huge blow. But it had been coming.

The reason it had been coming was due to poor stewardship over a number of years previously. Extravagant and wasteful transfers, and poor decision making on managerial appointments. This all contributed to the inevitable.

Relegation was compounded by the systematic dismantling of the first team squad during the summer, to an extent that many feel went above and beyond mere ‘tightening of the belt’.

The debacle that was the summer transfer window resulted in a squad that is short on absolute personnel, short on personnel in key roles, and short on cover for players in the case of injury, loss of form or suspensions.

This is nothing short of indefensible.

More than ever, our Supporters Trust needs our backing and support.

Still owning 21% of the club – the largest portion of ownership outside of the majority shareholders – it continues to work tirelessly and diligently to ask the right questions of the owners and the board of directors, seeking the answers that the supporters are looking for on a number of areas of concern.

No other club at the higher levels of the English football pyramid can boast a Supporter Director such as the one the Trust has. They have a hugely important role to play.

The more members the Trust has, the more clout it has to ask those difficult questions, and to get the answers we are all looking for.

Please join the Swans Trust today – it takes about 2 minutes to do, and it won’t break the bank.
