Swans Championship Opponents Confirmed

With Fulham defeating Brentford 2-1 in the Championship Play-Off at Wembley, the full list of teams the Swans will face next season in the Championship is now complete.

Although 18 of the sides remain the same as the 2019-2020 season, there are thankfully some brand new opponents for the Swans, some of whom they haven’t played in the league for many a year.

One of those sides is newly promoted Coventry City, who will still be playing their home games at Birmingham’s St. Andrew’s ground next season unfortunately.

The Swans haven’t met the Sky Blues in a league match since February 2011, when a second half Stephen Dobbie goal earned the Swans all 3 points in the Championship clash at the Ricoh Arena.

The other team who the Swans haven’t faced for quite a considerable time is another side promoted from League One – Wycombe Wanderers.

In fact, you have to go back over 15 years to find the last time the Swans last met Wycombe in a league game, when the sides played out a 2-2 draw in a League Two encounter at the Vetch Field in January 2005.

The visit of the Chairboys to the Liberty next season will take on added interest due to the return of a certain, Adebayo Akinfenwa or Bayo as he was affectionately known to Swans fans during his 2 year stint at the Liberty Stadium between 2005 and 2007.

Some of you may well remember Bayo scoring the very first league goal at the Liberty Stadium, as the Swans celebrated their return to the third tier of English football, under Kenny Jackett, with a 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers.

Next season will also see the Swans renew acquaintances with Rotherham United, who were promoted from League One, along with the three relegated sides from the Premier League, Norwich City, Watford and AFC Bournemouth.

Here is a full list of the Swans opponents for the 2020-2021 EFL Championship season, which kicks off on the weekend of September 12.
