Swans draw Stevenage in Cup

The Swans have been drawn away to League Two Stevenage in the Emirates FA Cup 3rd Round.

Former Wales International Robbie Savage – good friend of former Swan Gorka Pintado – made the draw live on BBC One, with the game due to be played on the weekend of 9/10th January 2021.

The Boro currently sit 21st in the League Two table, but given the Swans history against lower league opposition, you can never take anything for granted, despite Cooper’s men flying high in the Championship this season.

Ironically, the last time the sides met in a first team fixture, was in the FA Cup 2nd Round, when the Swans beat Stevenage 2-1 at the Vetch Field on 6 December 2003, thanks to a goal in each half from Lee Trundle and Kevin Nugent.

The sides did meet at the Lamex Stadium in the Football League Trophy back in August 2018, when they entertained a Swans U23s side, with the Boro running out comfortable 5 nil winners.

Although on paper the Swans stand a very good chance of progressing to the fourth round, no doubt Steve Cooper would still have preferred a home draw.
