Swansea fans at Bramall Lane

Despite the chaos caused by Storm Eunice, nearly 900 Swansea City fans were at Bramall Lane to witness yet another poor away performance from the Swans, as they fell to a 4 nil defeat at the hands of Sheffield United.

Quite a few travelling Jacks arrived late and some didn’t even get to the game due to train cancellations, but the 875 that did make it certainly made themselves heard throughout the game – even when the Swans were 3-0 down after 78 minutes.

The Swans support even drew praise and some bemusement on social media from the Sheffield United fans in the 26,564 crowd.

Swansea’s Poor Away Form Continues

This latest defeat now means that Russell Martin’s team have lost the last 3 away games on the bounce, conceding 9 goals and not scoring once.

It is fast becoming a worrying trend especially as it is in stark contrast to the Swans home form.

One thing is for certain and that is that the performance levels of too many Swansea players at Sheffield United was unacceptable and something that will need to be addressed quickly, as they clearly let themselves, the fans, club and perhaps most of all perhaps their manager down.

Russell Martin Post-Match

Martin made his feelings know in the post-match press conference.

“I feel sorry for the fans who have travelled in challenging circumstances and been brilliant throughout the game,” said the head coach.

“They deserve better than what we are giving them away from home at the moment.

No doubt Russell Martin will be looking for a big improvement for their next away game at West Bromwich Albion on Monday, 28 February.

However, there is just the small matter of welcoming promotion chasing AFC Bournemouth to the Swansea dot com stadium on Tuesday evening first.
