Latibeaudiere earns first Jamaica cap

Swans defender Joel Latibeaudiere became the latest Swansea City player to earn International honours at the club, when he made his debut for Jamaica in the heavy defeat to Catalonia yesterday.

The former Manchester City Academy product who had earned his first call up to the Reggae Boyz squad only last week, was named in the starting XI by Jamaica coach Paul Hall for the game in the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in Girona.

The Reggae Boyz were no match for their hosts however, as Catalonia romped to a 6-0 win, thanks to goals from captain Marc Bartra, Javi Puado, Ferran Jutgla and a Gerard Deulofeu hat-trick in front of a 6,124 crowd.

Reggae Boyz coach Paul Hall said in his post-match interview that he was very disappointed with the team’s poor defensive display throughout the match.

“Yes, we were (poor defensively), but this is a group that was thrown together, they don’t know each other, and I am just glad that most of the players came through this match,” said Hall.

“I thought that young (Tyreek) McGee came on and he passed the ball around and Joel Latibeaudiere also showed his qualities and young (Oquassa) Chong came on and did really well and so there were a few good performances even though the scoreline didn’t reflect that,” Hall said.

The Reggae Boyz will now turn their attention to their first CONCACAF Nations League encounter away to Suriname on June 4.
