What are the outright odds on promotion & relegation for Swansea City?
With the season now up and running for Swansea City, we’ve taken a look at what the bookies think will happen to the Swans this season.
After the outstanding loan signing from Brighton & Hove Albion for Malick Yalcouye, who was man of the match in a Champions League match last season, expectations have grown from fans and neutrals about an exciting season ahead.
However, we looked at what FIRST’s Championship experts thought on Swansea’s chances of getting promoted or getting relegated this season.
Swansea City to get promoted 14/1 (betway)
For the first time in a long time, the Championship promotion race looks to be difficult to predict. Normally, most fans and neutrals know who will be at the top of the table but the 2025/26 Championship season feels different to previous years. Relegated teams from the Premier League look to be struggling to find their identity whilst promoted teams from League One are backed by wealthy foreign investors. As such, Swansea City have been left in the middle of all this and, somewhat understandable considering the points mentioned, are being forgotten about by the bookies.
The Swans are priced at 14/1 with betway to claim promotion to the Premier League. That ranks them as 14th favourite to go up, with the Swans sandwiched between Stoke City and newly-promoted Charlton Athletic. Alan Sheehan guided the Swans to 11th last season after winning five of the last seven league games, so he already knows how to get results with this squad. With the notable additions, including Yalcouye, Swansea City fans might be tempted by the 14/1 price.
Swansea City to finish in the top 6 5/1 (betway)
If Swansea City are to get promoted, it’s fair to say their likely route is via the play-offs. Therefore, finishing in the top 6 at the end of the season is a much shorter price of 5/1. This goes to show that the bookies do believe the Swans are capable of booking their spot in the post-season showpiece thanks to the division being as wide open as it seems to be this year.
Of course, Swansea do have both positive and negative memories of making it to Wembley. Their last visit in 2021 ended in heartbreak as Swansea lost 2-0 to Brentford during what was the Covid-hit season. However, 30th May 2011 is a day Swansea City fans will never forget as they beat Reading 4-2 to book their spot in the following season’s Premier League. Will someone join Scott Sinclair this year and send Swansea up at Wembley?
Swansea City to get relegated 6/1 (betway)
Given the nature of those teams that have been promoted to the Championship from League One, the relegation spots look wide open too. Birmingham City and Wrexham have spent big to ensure they’re looking at the top end of the table, whilst Charlton Athletic have Nathan Jones who has already proved himself astute at this level. Therefore, the three relegation spots look difficult to call.
Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford City are some of the early season favourites leading the odds, but Swansea being priced at 6/1 shows that the bookies don’t think they’ll be one of those three to face the drop. As previously mentioned, the bookies believe there’s more chance of a top six finish than a bottom three one!
