Happy 27th Birthday Marvin Emnes

Today marks the 27th birthday of the Swans Dutch winger/striker Marvin Emnes – Gelukkige Verjaardag Marvin!

The diminitive but speedy Dutchman joined the Swans initially on a month-long loan deal in October 2010 and scored on his Swans debut against Leicester City, when he came on as a sub (sound familiar?).

Probably his most well-known Swans goal however was that sweet strike from outside the box against Cardiff in the 156th South Wales derby, which earned the Jacks a 1-nil victory against their bitter rivals at the Legoland Stadium.

Sadly the end of the loan period was the last we were to see of Emnes in a Swansea shirt until some 4 years later when he signed another loan deal – this time until the end of the season – in January 2014. The Summer months saw him put pen to paper on a three-year contract, keeping him at the Liberty until July 2017.

Whilst his appearances have been limited during the 2014-15 Premier League season, Emnes’ League Cup goals against Everton and Liverpool, combined with a number of penalty awards (mainly due to his speed) make him a useful player to have in the Swans squad, if only from the subs bench as an impact player.

We’ll always be grateful for that goal against Cardiff Marvin, so everyone here at SCFC2 would like to wish you a very Happy 27th Birthday.
