If reports coming out of Portugal over the last few days are accurate then Carlos Carvalhal could be about to lose one of his key backroom staff come the end of the Premier League season.
Daily Portuguese newspaper ‘A Bola’ reported yesterday that Benfica are looking to recruit Bruno Lage, who is a key member of Carvalhal’s coaching staff at the Swans.

The Portuguese giants are looking to 41 year old Lage as one potential replacement for current Benfica B side coach Hélder Cristóvão, who will be leaving his post at the end of this season.
Perhaps it is not surprising that Lage is being linked to the role, given that he was a former coach at the club’s academy from 2004 to 2012 and highly regarded by the club hierarchy.
Carvalhal and Lage have worked together since their time at Sheffield Wednesday, with the duo even having a book on football coaching entitled ‘Soccer: Developing A Know-How’ published back in 2014 and still available on Amazon.
Whether or not the apparent interest from Benfica progresses any further will no doubt hinge on what happens to the Swans and their Premier League relegation battle. A failure to survive and Lage could well be on his way back to his homeland.
