In an entertaining, competitive contest played at frantic pace, the Swans finally came through, although there were times in the second half where the visitors pressed us hard as they fought their way back into the match. We fielded a number of U18s and also welcomed Ramon Rees-Siso and Tom Searle back to the squad. …
Playing the same opposition who gained a 2-2 draw with our U21s last week, the Swans endured a really tough first half examination in the humid drizzle today at the stadium and finally secured a creditable – if what appeared at times unlikely – 2-0 victory. Huddersfield named 7 of the players who started at …
A draw in a game our U21s really should have won comfortably. We fielded a decent side and dominated large stretches of play, weakly conceding goals at times when we looked at our strongest. Newcomer Tom Iorpenda was given a start in a midfield alongside Harlan Perry. Coach Anthony Wright probably had to shoehorn available …
A return to the stadium, but a rather flat performance against a well-organised Sheffield United side. As was the case in the opening game last Friday, we started with a 4-3-3 formation but moved quickly to 3-4-3 with right back Bill Clarke joining midfield, leaving a back 3 of Iestyn Jones, Arthur Parker and Jack …
A welcome return to competitive academy action this evening with a convincing cup victory over Category One side Birmingham City. The academy tectonic plates are still moving about and it’s fair to say that one or 2 of tonight’s squad may be moving on shortly, but coach Anthony Wright put out a balanced and competitive …
Just over a year ago this writer pronounced: “Another testing encounter for our young U21s, this time Merthyr Town provided too strong an opposition and took a 4-1 victory. On the balance of play this felt a slightly harsh result, although Merthyr took their chances well and were deserving winners on the night.” Change the …
Our U21s snatched a 4-4 draw at Briton Ferry Llansawel in a friendly at the Old Road today. No teamsheet, a fairly low turnout and we were blessed with a comedy announcer, so not much in the way of information supporting today’s midday friendly. It was an unusual but entertaining match. U-21s Coach Anthony Wright …
Our U21s edged a 2-1 victory this evening in a friendly at Trefelin’s Ynys Park. It was a competitive game in the usual welcoming atmosphere and in great scenic surroundings at Port Talbot. Newly promoted to the Cymru Premier, Trefelin have adapted some of the immediate infrastructure – there’s now a proper turnstile – and …
A thoroughly deserved win this evening at the main stadium for a gritty display against a Cat 1 Newcastle side that had classy performers but little cutting edge. Coach Anthony Wright was able to select a strong line-up and a decent bench. Newcastle were led by ex-Middlesbrough player Robbie Stockdale, who’s had a lengthy and …
A thrilling end to a competitive game at Landore, our last scheduled U-21 home fixture. Our boys capitulated at the last to a determined and skilful Watford side just when it appeared we would seize victory. Line-up (4-3-3): Joe Collins; Tom Searle (s – Aimar Govea 63m), Iestyn Jones, Blair McKenzie, Caio Ifans; Milo Robinson …
