Since joining Swansea City on loan back in January 2020, Rhian Brewster has been a revelation in the Championship.
For all parties involved, the 20-year-old’s short-term spell at the Liberty Stadium has been undoubtedly beneficial, with the youngster scoring 10 goals for Steve Cooper’s team thus far.
However, it’s clear that the Swans need to keep hold of Brewster for the entirety of next season, if they are to take another step towards achieving their long-term goals, be it on the Championship or Premier League.
A Much-Needed Goalscorer
Before moving to Wales, the on-loan Liverpool striker had yet to get many minutes of senior football under his belt.
Having made just three appearances for the newly-crowned Premier League champions in the first half of the season, Klopp stated that loaning Brewster was the right thing to do. Since then, the Reds’ German manager has labelled the 20-year-old’s loan spell at Swansea as “nearly perfect”.
According to an article by PlanetFootball, which was posted on June 23rd 2020, Brewster had only been outscored by one player since joining the Swans in January.
At the time, Brentford’s Said Benrahma had scored ten goals, two more than the on-loan Liverpool attacker. Since then, however, the 20-year-old has only enhanced his reputation in front of goal.
As per his profile at Transfermarkt, the London-born striker has scored ten goals in 20 appearances, giving him a goal participation involvement of 33 per cent in that time.

Crucially, since he arrived at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea have lost just five of their last 21 games.
During this run, Brewster has scored crucial goals in numerous matches, including finding the breakthrough against both Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Reading.
Importantly, his goalscoring instincts have provided the Swans with far more penetration in the offensive third, surpassing Borja Baston as the side’s second-top goalscorer for the campaign behind Andre Ayew.
The Importance of Steve Cooper
As touched upon above, Brewster’s move made sense for all parties.
While both the player himself and Liverpool will be the long-term beneficiaries of the loan stint, Steve Cooper’s relationship with the player could enhance Swansea’s ability to retain the 20-year-old for the 2020-21 season.

Having worked with Brewster during his time as the manager of England’s U17s, the 40-year-old is continuing to develop the Englishman’s game.
However, while the pieces are in place for Swansea to potentially keep hold of Brewster, Liverpool may envisage utilising him next season as they seek to retain the Premier League title. As of July 27th, and for those who desire to bet on football at Space Casino, the Reds are 7/4 to recapture the title come to the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Intriguingly, with Divock Origi continually being linked with an exit from Anfield, Klopp may prefer to use Brewster as a back-up option to Roberto Firmino instead of dipping into the transfer market.
At Championship level, Brewster has showcased his abilities in front of goal.
Crucially, as such ruthlessness isn’t typically available for a reasonable fee, giving the 20-year-old a chance may prove fruitful to the Premier League champions from an on-field and financial standpoint.
Potential to be World Class
For much of his career at youth level, Brewster has been touted as a potential star for the future.
While this is still true, of course, he’s proving that he’s capable and ready to make an immediate impact.
If Klopp doesn’t favour putting pressure on the youthful forward to deliver in Firmino’s absence, then another year at Swansea would undoubtedly make sense.
