Swansea City 0 Bristol City 2 – Under 18 Professional Development League

An entertaining game, but largely due to the performance of the visitors who, as the match progressed, dominated possession and created a host of chances.

Fairly uneventful first half. We played 4-3-3 but struggled to get wingers Wilson and Hillier and centre forward Geoff Bony into the game.  Our first attempt on goal came almost on half-time when Hillier’s shot was deflected wide by the Bristol keeper.

In time added on, due to right back Dan Watts’s injury, Bristol’s tricky winger Dylan Lewis bought a free-kick on the edge of the box and slack marking allowed central defender Sage to score with a diving header from close in.

Although Charlie Veevers came into midfield for the second half, we still couldn’t string any kind of passing rhythm together.  Bristol’s Lewis spun Roberts to score a 2nd and also hit the underside of the bar in the closing minutes.  In truth, Bristol could have scored more.  We created very little.  Kieran Petrie had a half hour runout in what must have been for him an unusual left wing role. He looked lively and had one potshot wide with a chance created from the one time Bony managed to bully his way past an otherwise tenacious Robins centre half.

Left back Myers had a couple of mazy runs, centre half Roberts looks confident, mobile and able in the air and on the ground.  This team will no doubt have better days.

The spectator attendance at Landore was limited to one stand, probably about 60 there in total tonight, with a large contingent from Bristol, some of whom got held up in traffic enroute but made it along, fair play to them.
