A morale boosting 3-1 win today for our U18 over Hull City’s academy side. This will have done the younger players in the squad a world of good, plus serving as a positive return to action for keeper Evan Watts and defender Filip Lissah, who’ve missed large parts of this season.
Hull must have taken an academy squad with them and stopped over locally last night. A couple of today’s team – Sani and Brown – featured in yesterday’s U21 squad and I’m fairly sure that today’s trialist is the same number 3 Harry Wallis who also played yesterday.
We started with a familiar 3-4-1-2 formation: Evan Watts (sub Kit Margetson 46m); Arthur Parker, Jada Mawongo, Richard Faakye; Thomas Searle (sub Kyrell Wilson 61m), Dan Watts, Jacob Cook (sub Sam Parker 76m), Callum Deacon; Thomas Woodward (sub Ramon Rees-Siso 76m); Rohan Davies (sub Filip Lissah 61m), Iwan Morgan.
Iwan Morgan delivered another impressive display, often making his own chances and also showing unselfish play of his own – particularly his break and carpet pass for Rohan Davies’s goal and some clever hold-up play to release Deacon for Woodward to convert the side’s 3rd.
Hull were a big side that didn’t create a great deal. They managed to claw 1 back with a speculative shot by Kelly that found its way past Margetson, but 3-1 flattered them overall.
Decent cameos for subs Kyrell Wilson and U16 midfielder Rees-Siso.
Callum Deacon and Dan Watts can also be very pleased with their contributions today.
