22-year-old goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has signed for the Swans on a season long loan deal from Premier League Brighton, but what can we expect from the young keeper.
Early Career
Rushworth was born on July 2, 2001, in Halifax, England and began his career with FC Halifax Town before signing for Brighton & Hove Albion.
In August 2019, he signed for Worthing on a season-long loan and made 30 appearances in all competitions for the seventh-tier side, before signing a new three-year contract with Brighton in July 2020.
Career Statistics
The goalkeeper’s move to south Wales is the latest loan spell Rushworth has undertaken during his playing career to date. In July 2021, he moved on a season-long loan to League Two side Walsall.
He made his debut for the Saddlers on August 7, 2021, in the 1–0 away loss at Tranmere on the opening game of the 2021–22 season, which was also his Football League debut. On January 5, 2022, while on loan at Walsall, Rushworth signed a new contract with Brighton, committing to the club until 2025.
On July 8, 2022, Rushworth joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan deal. He made his Lincoln debut on the opening day of the season against Exeter City. During his impressive loan spell at League One Lincoln City last season, he played in 46 games.
Perhaps most notably, he is a current England Under-21 international who was part of the squad that recently won the European Championship after beating Spain 1-0 in the final.
No doubt Rushworth will know Nathan Wood, who was called up to an England Under 21 camp back in March 2023.
Videos of Carl Rushworth
There are several videos of Carl Rushworth available on YouTube, which showcase some of the amazing saves he has made during his career thus far.
Despite his age Carl Rushworth is clearly a talented goalkeeper with a bright future ahead of him.
His move to Swansea City on a season-long loan from Brighton is an exciting development in his career and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the Championship.
One thing for sure is that he, along with Steven Benda who is recovering from a knee injury, will give current number one Andy Fisher some serious competition for a starting spot.
With his impressive statistics, there is no doubt that he has the potential to become a top goalkeeper in the years to come.
