Swansea City Head coach Luke Williams admitted his side paid the price for lapses in concentration and intensity during their 2-2 draw with Portsmouth.
The Swans came into the game on the back of a midweek win at Derby County but found themselves 2-0 down after Matt Ritchie tapped in from close range and Josh Murphy fired a low strike into the net.
Swansea pulled one back before halftime when Liam Cullen’s pinpoint cross forced Connor Ogilvie to turn the ball into his own net.
Cullen then brought the Swans level early in the second half, but despite creating several chances, including opportunities for Cullen, Jisung Eom, and Florian Bianchini, they couldn’t find the winner.
Williams was left frustrated as the missed opportunities cost Swansea the chance to complete the comeback and take all three points.
“We should be able to score two goals at home and comfortably win a game. We have been good defensively, but if you don’t maintain your levels of concentration, and play with the levels of intensity and aggression it can be a big problem.
“There are no excuses, these are professional players, they are outstanding at their best and we have to bring that every week.
“I am impressed with the resilience of the group to come back, but there are times we have let ourselves down with the way we have approached the game, or periods of game, and today we started the game poorly and paid for it.”
