Swansea City welcome Stoke City to the Liberty Stadium this weekend as Steve Cooper’s men look to maintain their position at the top of the Championship table.
The Swans were held 1-1 by Reading at home last weekend with Andre Yiadom’s last minute equaliser also costing us our selection on the Swans to win and our accumulator pick in our Reading match preview!
However, all was forgiven when the Swans ran out impressive 2-1 winners at Charlton in midweek to return to the top of the table after 10 games of the 46 game campaign, as Andre Ayew scored his first Swans goal in 20 League games.
Nathan Jones has struggled at Stoke this season as he heads to his native South Wales this weekend.
Stoke are currently bottom of the table with just two points from ten games and were defeated in midweek at home by a Huddersfield side, who were also without a win before that game.
The Stoke performance was even more miserable for the home side as they didn’t even muster a shot on target in the whole game, and it is this lack of invention for the Potters and the worst defensive record in the league which is the cause of their problems thus far.

The last time the sides met at the Liberty Stadium was the Championship clash in April this year, when goals from Daniel James, Mike van der Hoorn and Oli McBurnie were enough to give the Swans a 3-1 win over a Stoke City side who finished the game with only nine men, after two second half red cards in the space of only six minutes!

West Midlands born official Oliver Langford will make his Liberty Stadium debut as the referee for this Championship fixture.
This will be Langford’s 7th EFL Championship game this season, having thus far issued 27 yellow cards and 1 red. On that basis and given Stoke’s usual physical approach, I’d envisage a few more cards added to his tally this Saturday!!

Our first betting selection, unsurprisingly given the respective league positions, is Swansea to win the game which surprisingly is as high as 111/100 (2.11) with MarathonBet.
I may be tempting fate by saying this, but Swansea’s football is way ahead of Stoke’s at present and Nathan Jones has seemed like a defeated man in recent weeks.
The Swans’ shot count will be what makes their odds slightly inflated, but I wouldn’t worry about this given the gulf in form and would back the home win.
I spoke last week about Swansea’s style of play and how Borja Baston benefited from this, with the Spaniard duly obliging by netting the first goal – as we predicted last week!
I see no reason to seek value elsewhere in the game with Stoke struggling to defend attacks down the wings this season and having a clear weakness with defending the back post, which has cost them a number of goals this season.
Swansea’s overlapping full backs will no doubt look to exploit these weaknesses and provide the service for Baston and with odds of 9/2 (5.50) on the Spaniard to open the scoring looks good value with Bet365.
