Swansea City 0 Chelsea 8 – Under 18 Premier League South

Another heavy defeat against a physically bigger and technically sharper set of opponents.

helsea dominated from the start – they’d already hit the bar before going into a 1-0 lead after 5 minutes. They missed a succession of chances before Swansea gradually got a bit of possession, but Clancy and Thomas were given very little to work with. We managed to make it to half-time without further damage, but then conceded 3 quick goals early in the 2nd half – sadly mostly from our own players being dispossessed, such was the constant pressure on the ball. A traditional collapse in the last 10 minutes saw Chelsea equal West Ham’s 8 from earlier this season. In truth, they could’ve easily got double figures.

We ended the game with 3 15 year olds on the pitch, none of whom should be displeased with their performances (Cameron Congreve in particular operates with great confidence). Clearly must be disheartening to lose again so heavily despite some tenacious defending & occasional bright passages of play.

Aside from a couple of midfielders Rankine & Haigh – the latter of whom I think got a hat-trick – the Chelsea side was uniformly bigger. The big & quick left back Iling rampaged unopposed down the wing & could’ve got a hat-trick himself. As a club, Chelsea have had to finally resort to promoting their youth while under transfer ban. Given the chance, a number of these players look as though they have a good chance of progressing in future.
