André Ayew will no longer wear the Swans colours

André Ayew will not be extending his contract with Swansea City Football Club. He will be leaving the club on June 30.

The Welsh club has unveiled the list of players who will leave at the end of the month, list on which the name of the young Ghanaian appears.

The club said: “Ayew has been the club’s top scorer for the past two seasons, scoring 35 goals since returning from a loan at Fenerbahçe.” He arrived free in the summer of 2015 from Olympique de Marseille (OM).

An Impeccable Record

The 31-year-old striker had signed up for four seasons with the ambition to win in the Premier League as he explained in his first interview with his club. “It was a difficult decision to leave Marseille. I’ve been there all my life; it was hard to make that decision. But I grew up, I thought it was time to go, where I always wanted to play, in the Premier League”. A dream he was able to realise.

His team’s top scorer in the league with 12 goals in 34 appearances but Ayew only stayed one year at the Swans.

For £20.5 million, he joined West Ham in 2016, before returning to the Welsh club a year and a half later, in January 2018, for an undisclosed fee.

Loaned to Fenerbahçe six months after his comeback in 2018-2019, the former Olympique de Marseille (OM) returned to Swansea the following season and he honoured his last two years of contract, while the club was playing in the Championship.

Last season, the player appeared in 43 league appearances, scoring 16 goals, and providing four assists.

Only this week, the Ghanian had one final message for the Jack Army, which he posted on his official instagram account.

Towards New Adventures

For two years, he was a real talisman for the team. He played 94 matches in all competitions. But while the club offered him a one-year contract extension, the 31-year-old footballer decided to leave at the end of his current contract on June 30, 2021. He would make a great acquisition for some clubs.

Ayew has a solid experience, which could make the happiness of a club wishing a reinforcement at a lower cost. This could therefore give ideas to French clubs, since he played at Olympique de Marseille and Lorient in particular.

A Return to Olympique de Marseille?

André Ayew is in a favourable position for a return to Olympique Marseille. Condemned to be very inventive in the transfer market for lack of colossal financial means, the leaders of the Provence club would welcome the profile of the person who went through the training centre of the city of Marseille. At 31, the left-handed midfielder is far from retired.

André Ayew wore the Marseille colours for several seasons (2010-2015). He has notably played under the orders of current Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The profile of the Ghanaian, therefore, suits the needs of Olympique Marseille very well. Andre Ayew has the advantage of being free as he will come to the end of his contract with Swansea on June 30th.
