Swans Under 23s draw with Peterborough United

Peterborough got the draw at the last, the very least they deserved after a dominant 2nd half performance against a Swans side that fell away after a decent first half.

The Swans had gone ahead after 3 minutes when a Posh defender inexplicably handled a harmless looking cross.  Tarrelle Whittaker’s penalty went straight down the middle and he was fortunate the keeper didn’t keep it out.

The Swans initially played a strong passing game, created a couple of half chances through Margetson, Morgan and Cotterill, but were thankful that Margetson was able to chest a clear effort off the line in the 31st minute before Boro’s centre forward missed the goal with a completely free header before half-time.

In the second half, we made early substitutions and played a variety of formations to no particular effect – Harry Jones to centre back, Jacob Jones to right back, Lincoln McFayden to left back, Akande on at right wing then over to left wing, Whittaker to right wing, Morgan into midfield.  What was evident though is that we couldn’t control possession and lost the ball constantly and cheaply.  Peterborough overran us in midfield, created and squandered numerous chances, hit the post and the bar and finally got their reward in added time when Emmanuel Ogbonna scored to make it 1-1.

Quite some difference to Monday – and proves we’re still a work in progress at this level.
