Swansea City became the first side to win at the CBS Arena this season, after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Coventry City last night.
Goals from Jamie Paterson and Joel Piroe in the first 12 minutes set the Swans on their way to the 3 points, before Sky Blues captain Kyle McFadzean halved the deficient on the half-hour mark.
The game was a fantastic advert for Championship football, with both sides intent on playing positive attacking football, resulting in an end-to-end affair, as Russell Martin’s side had to dig deep in the second half to keep Coventry at bay.
849 Swansea fans made the trip to Coventry and certainly made themselves heard in the 16,500 odd crowd.
The Swans victory even had the Coventry City fans praising the performance, which isn’t something you read that often!
Here are the key points made by the managers after the game.
Russell Martin on the win at Coventry
“We came out of the traps brilliantly. So much energy, intensity and aggression,”
“We could have had a couple more goals early on, and it was really frustrating to concede the goal we did.
“We’ve been really strong at defensive set-pieces, so it’s really disappointing because if we go in at half-time 2-0 up, it feels a little bit different.
“The guys dug in, showed a real character and willingness to work for each other and defend what we had.
“Unfortunately for us we were not quite clean enough on the counter-attack, we had a couple of situations to hurt them and kill it off.
“But there were some massive performances and I felt we deserved the win on the back of how we started the game and the chances we did create.”
Mark Robins on Swansea
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s difficult because they are a good team and they like to move you around and make you do things that we want to do to opposition teams. They make you uncomfortable and they made us too uncomfortable because we didn’t get to grips with their movements.
