No need to repeat too much of the facts of the game – there’s even a blog on it by West Ham with a promise of a video to follow.
We were pretty decent most of the match. Played a fluid 3-4-2-1 formation: Erickson right side, Brandon Cooper middle, Margetson left side of defence; Harry Jones and Lincoln McFayden the wide players, Dan Williams and Tivoshe Rushesha central midfield; Cameron Congreve and Sam Leverett pushing up supporting Morgan Whittaker. Rushesha went to central defence when Abdulai replaced Cooper; Tarrelle Whittaker replaced his namesake; Rio Campbell came on for Leverett as we pushed players forward in the 2nd half.
Cameron Congreve ran himself into the ground and came off with cramp in the final moments. He and Dan Williams were the Swans standouts. Tarrelle Whittaker contributed a lively 20 minute cameo and that says a lot.
As seems to be the pattern this season, there were moments when we could have seized control: someone should’ve have taken one for the team and stopped Alese striding through to score the first goal; the 1st West Ham penalty was a mystery to everyone; Margetson’s disallowed header came minutes before West Ham broke away and scored a 4th.
It was a relief to see us score twice, even if our penalty seemed to be the referee’s compensation for a variety of poor decisions. He managed to book McFayden, Rushesha, Williams and Abdulai in a game that didn’t have a single dirty tackle in it.
Azeem Abdulai’s goal was well made and neatly taken, gaining the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
Former Hammers Mark Robson and Steve Potts coached the visitors.
