2-1 sounds closer than it was – we really should have been out of sight in the 2nd half.
The players should be rightly proud of their display today. A few isolated self-inflicted errors aside, this was a powerful performance and a credit to the team.
We played a distinct 3-4-3 when in possession and it worked perfectly. Morgan and Bony were a real handful for the Cardiff defence and Kyrell Wilson had the best game I’ve seen him play.
Edwards and Carey ran themselves into the ground in midfield and the back 3 of Mawongo, Ludvigsen & Bassett were unflinching against a very physical Cardiff frontline.
A neat pass from Bony found Wilson in space near the penalty spot to score an opener on 5 minutes. A needless push earned Cardiff a penalty equaliser 6 minutes later.
We had plenty of chances in the 2nd half, but it took a looped deflection to provide Lissah the opportunity to head home on 59 minutes. This came 3 minutes after Mawongo was well placed to clear a Schwank shot off the line. The Cardiff right winger was a danger throughout.
Iwan Morgan was unlucky not to get a goal – he needs no invitation to take a shot. Substitute Ruben Davies slotted in quickly and he too had opportunities to extend the lead. A mention also for Evan Watts, who replaced Wilson, and played his part in a really important position in front of the middle duo.
Some of our passing and linkup play, particularly when space opened up in the 2nd half, was really pleasing to watch.
