Swans Legends win Steve Bissix Testimonial / Kevin Austin memorial match

Last Sunday the Memorial Ground in Bristol played host to a Bristol Rovers Legends v Swansea City Legends Charity game for the Steve Bissix Testimonial and Kevin Austin memorial.

The Swans Legends team was like a trip down memory lane, as Lee Bracey, Matthew Bound, John Williams, Steve Torpey, Kerry Morgan, Darren Pratley, Adrian Forbes, Angel Rangel and Leon Britton all played, with former boss Kenny Jackett also making an appearance in the dug-out.

Bound and Pratley in particular stood out for the Swans, with several fans commenting that they felt both could still do a job for Russell Martin at the Swansea dot com stadium!

A decent crowd attended the game, with quite a few Jacks making the relatively short trip over the Prince of Wales Bridge.

In an entertaining encounter, the Swansea Legends led 1-0 at the break, thanks to a Steve Torpey header from Adrian Forbes cross.

Rovers then equalised on 52 minutes, through a cracking strike from Lewis Hogg.

It was fitting that Kevin Austin’s son, Aaron, should then help the Swans regain the lead on the hour mark, with a well taken penalty.

Rovers never gave up though and levelled for a second time after 67 minutes, as Craig Disley’s weak shot was deflected into the net by Matt Bound, giving Swans goalkeeper Lee Bracey no chance.

The Swans Legends took the lead for a third time on 72 minutes, as the energetic Darren Pratley scored with a cool finish from the edge of the area.

With just a couple of minutes remaining, Rovers were awarded a penalty, but the resulting spot kick was blazed over the bar and the Swans held on for a narrow 3-2 victory.
