Swansea City 3 Charlton Athletic 2 – Under 21 Professional Development League

A well deserved victory in great weather at Landore.

We created by far the most chances, but conceded a couple of soft goals. Even so, our goal led a charmed life in the final 10 minutes as Charlton sought an equaliser.

An excellent finish from Ben Lloyd – his first touch on coming onto the pitch – gave us victory and after incisive build-up play by Cameron Congreve and Joe Thomas. The latter took the congratulations for Swansea’s 2nd, although it was clear the ball went into the net off a Charlton defender from Joel Cotterill’s low corner.

A number of decent displays in a strong overall team performance: Wasiri Williams was sound again in fefence and was unlucky to see his heard from a corner bounce down and over the Charlton bar. Nathaneal Ogbeta performed far better than last Monday in an unfamiliar central defensive position and later showed what he really is – a capable attacking wide player – when switched following Lincoln McFayden’s substitution. Good cameos from McFayden, Cam Congreve, Joe Thomas, Joel Cotterill and Tarrelle Whittaker. We played 3-4-2-1 with Congreve and Whittaker supporting Geoff Bony. Sub Corey Hurford ended up leading the line for us.

Goals: Swansea – Whittaker 15m; Cotterill 55m; Lloyd 67m. Charlton: Kanu 11m; Kedwell 51.
