Swansea City conceded a late equaliser as they held Birmingham City to a 2-2 draw at St. Andrews on Tuesday evening.
The result left Swans boss Russell Martin frustrated, especially as his side had come from a goal down to lead 2-1 with just minutes remaining before Troy Deeney scored to give the home side a share of the spoils.
A poor opening quarter from the Swans, saw the home side take the lead through Scott Hogan on 12 minutes, as the striker took full advantage of some poor defending.
The early setup seemed to shake the Swans up and they eventually took control of the game through yet another sublime Olivier Ntcham strike on the half-hour mark to bring the Swans level.
Skipper Matt Grimes then scored his first goal since the Barnsley Play-Off Semi-Final in 2020-2021, during first half stoppage time to give the Swans the lead.
There was heartbreak for the Swans and the 1,266 Jacks present as Blues captain Troy Deeney lashed home the equaliser.
“It’s hurts, it’s frustrating and disappointing,” said the Swans manager.
“We’ll get criticised because it’s something that’s happened to us a few times this season, but I thought for long periods the players were brilliant.”
Many fans had commented on how conceding such late goals has denied the Swans a higher position in the table than they currently occupy – 8th.
The fact of the matter is however, that it is poor defending that is costing the Swans more than anything else.
