Durham born official Andrew Kitchen has been appointed the referee for the Championship game between QPR and Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
The official is not only be taking charge of his very first Swans game, but also his very first Championship game, having only been promoted to the football league at the start of the 2020/2021 season.
Referee Kitchen will be assisted by James Wilson and Bhupinder Singh Gill, with the experienced Keith Stroud the 4th Official for the game at the Loftus Road Stadium.
Hopefully his Championship bow won’t involve any major incident, such as his handling of the goalless League One draw between Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic back in February 2023.
United’s Josh Knight was sent off after a passage of play that started with Jack Taylor fouling Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. The Charlton man then appeared to fall into Knight, who kicked out in response, only for the 20-year-old to retaliate by charging at Knight and seemingly throwing a punch, but only being shown a yellow card, as opposed to Knight who was shown a straight red.
The incident prompted Posh boss Darren Ferguson to label the game as “WWE stuff”.
