Ten-man Swansea City fell to Sheffield United in a 2-1 defeat at the Swansea.com Stadium after a second-half red card and penalty proved decisive.
Florian Bianchini’s close-range goal gave the Swans a deserved half-time lead, after a very good first half performance from the home side.
However, former Swans striker Rhian Brewster equalized for the Blades early in the second half before Harry Darling was controversially sent off for a clumsy challenge on the striker near the halfway line on 50 minutes.
Harrison Burrows converted the resulting penalty, securing victory for the Blades despite a spirited Swansea display.
After the match Luke Williams praised the response from his team after the poor showing in the derby, saying “I am really hurt by the result, but I thought the response after an awful performance in the derby was a really good one”.
Swansea made two changes from the dismal defeat against Cardiff City on the weekend, with Myles Peart-Harris and Bianchini replacing Jisung Eom and Joe Allen.
Next up for the Swans in the EFL Championship is a long trip to Carrow Road to take play Norwich City on Saturday (12:30pm).
