Match Highlights – Swansea City 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Michael Smith’s second-half strike condemned Swansea City to a 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Smith capitalised on a defensive error by Harry Darling to score, while the hosts were denied a stoppage-time equaliser when Jay Fulton’s finish was ruled offside by the narrowest of margins.

Myles Peart-Harris’ header was Swansea’s best chance, while Lawrence Vigouroux prevented Smith from adding a second.

Despite a closely contested match, the Swans left empty-handed, making three changes from the win at Bristol City on Sunday as Harry Darling, Fulton, and Peart-Harris returned to the line-up.

The next game for the Swans is the trip to the bet365 Stadium to play Stoke City on Saturday.

Post-Match Reaction from Luke Williams

Head coach Luke Williams felt Swansea City let a point slip away in their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Substitute Michael Smith scored the only goal, capitalising on a defensive error after Josh Windass intercepted a loose pass.

“It is disappointing because, while we did not do enough to win the game, we then made an error. Of course that can happen, but it’s really disappointing to make an error that leads directly to a goal,” he said.

“Like I say, we did not do enough to win the game, but we were good value for a draw because otherwise we defended well.

“There was a point within our grasp, I don’t think we could say we deserved to win the game because we got into some good positions and put some good balls into the box, but we did not anticipate enough.

“We do look somewhat more solid in this formation, but we need to be able to attack cleaner and have more balance again to our game.

“But we also have to avoid making the big errors that are costing us.”
