Swansea City and the rest of the EFL clubs will be able to take part in an early summer transfer window this year, thanks to a new rule linked to the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The EFL has confirmed the opening and closing dates for the 2025 summer transfer window, with clubs able to do business during an additional early period from Sunday 1 June to 7:00pm on Tuesday 10 June 2025. This early window gives teams the chance to strengthen their squads before the main summer window opens later on.
The special 10-day window has been introduced because FIFA is allowing clubs involved in the Club World Cup to register players early. That tournament runs from 14 June to 13 July 2025, and it’s expected that clubs across the world will be active in the market during that time.
- Open: Sunday 1 June to Tuesday 10 June (19:00)
- Close: Tuesday 10 June (19:00:01) to Monday 16 June (00:01)
- Re-open: Monday 16 June to Monday 1 September (19:00)
To ensure EFL clubs aren’t left behind, the league has opened the door for its teams to also operate in this extra window.
Transfer windows are not allowed to last more than 89 days in total, so this early period has been added separately to stay within FIFA’s rules.
The early chance to sign players could be a useful one for Swansea City, as head coach Alan Sheehan prepares for his first full season in charge. With plans already in motion for 2025-26, the Swans could look to make some early moves in the market.
