YJB Focus – Robert Harvard

Welcome to YJB Focus, where we meet a loyal Swans fan who also happens to be a regular visitor to the SCFC2 website.

This week features a regular on the SCFC2 Guestbook

Robert Havard
Robert Havard
Name or SCFC2 Guestbook Name: Countryboy (aka Robert Havard)
Occupation: Watching the Swans 🙂

How long have you been supporting the Swans?
58 years.

What was the first Swans game you attended and what are your memories of it?
My sister was at Swansea University in the 1950s. I am from Treherbert in the Rhondda and as a 12 year old I was able to visit her by train (the tunnel was still open then).

Later I married a girl from Gorseinon, so my affiliation with Cardiff City ended promptly! I always preferred the atmosphere at the old Vetch to Ninian Park.

What was the first Swans game you attended and what are your memories of it?
It was Swans home to Rotherham (1956?) and Mel Charles scored with a header, and maybe got a second, I can’t remember.

Who is your worst Swans player of all time, and why?
I don’t have worst players for the Swans.

What is your least favourite away ground (past or present), and why?
QPR (Loftus Road), the view for away fans behind one goal is lousy, partial and obstructed, plus I suffer from vertigo and could have been sick over their keeper.

Funniest moment whilst watching the Swans?
The elvis celebration for staying up at the end of our first season in the Premier League when Tim Bowen, who was behind me, came dressed as a chef! Forgot to ask him why.

You’ve got a meal deal ticket for Nando’s, which Swans player (past or present) would you take with you and why?
Leighton James. He was good enough to have played for Real Madrid and, besides, he was born in the same street as my missus!

On second thoughts, I’ll say Roberto Martinez, if he’s available. I’d like to unpick his tactical ideas and we could speak in Spanish.

What do you like most about the Swans?
Everything, but especially the club ethos, in which the Swans Trust is.

If there was one thing you could change about the club what would it be?
Extend the Liberty to 30,000. Or extend the Swans Trust to a majority share holding like Barcelona’s.

Vetch Field pasty or Liberty hot dog?
Neither, I prefer to eat food.
