Reigning Cup holders to face Cardiff Met in FAW Women’s Cup

The FAW Women’s Cup Second Round draw was made at the FAW Headquarters in Cardiff yesterday afternoon, when reigning Cup holders Swansea City Ladies, were handed a tough away trip to rivals Cardiff Met.

With both sides being favourites to win some silverware this season, the tie will provide a mouthwatering clash, especially as between them the sides have won the Women’s Cup in four of the last five seasons, the most recent being the Swans Ladies 2-1 over Cardiff City Ladies last season.

The 2nd Round clash will be played on Sunday 18 November at the Met’s Cyncoed Campus ground, when the Swans Ladies will look to exact some revenge for the painful 5-4 defeat on penalties in the 2016/17 Cup Final.

Met meanwhile, having last won the trophy against the Swans in that 2016/17 final, will look to try and regain the Cup winners mantle having been disqualified in last season’s competition for fielding ineligible players.

The full FAW Women’s Cup Second Round draw is available on the FAW website.

As fate would have it, Cardiff Metropolitan Ladies entertain Swansea City Ladies this weekend, for an Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League encounter – the first meeting of the sides this season.

Will Ian Owen’s side set the tone for the season ahead or will Kerry Harris’ side make home advantage count, whatever happens, games between the sides are always make for an interesting spectacle.
