Swans on this Day – December 7

Have you ever wondered how the Swans did on a particular date in history or were just curious as to which league or competition they played in? Maybe you’d even like to know when we’ve signed players or when a player celebarates his birthday!

Well read on to find out exactly when, who and what the Swans did on 7th December!

2 years ago in 2014 – Despite Wilfried Bony giving the Swans a 19th minute lead, they eventually lost 3-1 at West Ham United in the Barclays Premier League. Andy Carroll once again tormented the Swans with 2 goals, although the 68th minute sending off of Lukasz Fabianski for a foul on Sakho by referee Chris Foy, did little to help Garry Monk’s men. Leon Britton made way for Gerhard Tremmel to take over in goal and it was Sakho who rounding off the scoring three minutes from time. The defeat saw the Swans remain in 8th place in the Premier League table.

Tommy Mutton

17 years ago in 1999 – Goals from Tommy Mutton, Martin Thomas and Steve Watkin gave the Swans an impressive 3-1 win over Colchester United at the Vetch Field in Auto Windscreens Shield 1st Round – Southern Section. A crowd of just 1,222 watched John Hollins men in action. The Swans had already beaten the same side 2-1 at the Vetch a month earlier in the FA Cup 1st Round.

22 years ago in 1994 – The Swans eased into 5th Round of the Welsh Cup after beating Rhyl 5-1 at the Vetch Field in front of the 491 crowd. Manager Frank Burrows handed a debut to defender Christian Edwards, as Darren Perrett wrote his name into the history books, with an 8 minute 39 second hat-trick – beating the previous record set by Bob Latched against Leeds United in 1981. Steve Torpey and an own goal were the other scorers that day. Nobody would have thought that striker Perrett would have made history, apart from the experts of football predictions at Tipsters Review perhaps.

Jason Bowen - Swansea City

23 years ago in 1993 – Exeter City lost 2-1 to the Swans after extra-time in an Autoglass Trophy 2nd Round – Southern Section game at the Vetch Field. The 1,560 crowd watched as Jason Bowen scored the winner, sending the Swans through to the quarter-finals of the competition for the 2nd year in succession. Andy Cook had scored the Swans equaliser in normal time. The cup tie was the Swans 3rd game in six days!

25 years ago in 1991 – The Swans were held to a goalless draw at Exeter City in the FA Cup 2nd Round. Frank Burrows men knew a victory would see them progress to take on one of Burrows’ former teams – Portsmouth but both sides were evenly matched in the stalemate.

31 years ago in 1985 – A second half Paul Burrows goal was merely a consolation, as the Swans were dumped out of the FA Cup by fellow League Division Three side Bristol Rovers, as they lost 2-1 the Vetch Field.
