26 October 2010
Premier League Wigan Athletic knocked the Swans out of the Carling Cup in the 4th round with a 2-0 win at the DW Stadium.
The game took on added significance as Wigan were managed by Roberto Martínez and this was the first meeting with his old club, since leaving to join Wigan some 16 months earlier.
The Swans sold out their 4,500 allocation for the game, the majority of which their feelings towards Martinez known throughout the game.
Leon Britton – then of Sheffield United – also made an appearance at the game and opted to sit in the away end with the Jack Army to cheer on Brendan Rodgers men. One of the bloggers here at SCFC2 actually wrote a report of the trip to Wigan that day.

A James Thomas brace helped the Swans grab a point in a 2-2 at Carlisle United in this Nationwide Football League Division Three basement battle.
Unfortunately the draw saw the Swans drop a place to 23rd in the table as Brian Flynn’s men battled to get out of the relegation places.
26 October 1996
A 2-0 defeat at Torquay United in Nationwide Football League Division Three meant the Swans dropped to their lowest position in the football league since applying for re-election in May 1975.
Jan Molby’s men were woeful at Plainmoor and couldn’t capitalise on Torquay being reduced to 10 men just before half-time.
26 October 1991
Bottom of the table Torquay United beat the Swans 1-0 at Plainmoor in Barclays League Division Three. Another goalless away performance meant the Swans had not scored a goal away from the Vetch Field since 23rd April 1991.
The defeat meant that Frank Burrows team stayed just above their opponents in 23rd place in the table.
26 October 1985
Despite a goal from Nigel French, the Swans lost 5-1 at Gillingham in Canon League Division Three. The defeat saw John Bond’s team remain in 21st place in the league table.
26 October 1982
John Toshack’s First Division Swans eased to a 3 nil win over Bristol Rovers in the Milk Cup 2nd Round 2nd Leg tie at the Vetch Field.
The 9,735 crowd were treated to a Bob Latchford hat-trick – the 13th of his career. The Swans won the tie 3-1 on aggregate and went on to face Brentford in the Third Round.
26 October 1976
The Fourth Division Swans held Second Division Bolton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw at the Vetch Field in the League Cup 4th Round.
The 13,600 crowd saw Alan Curtis give the Swans a half-time lead, but Harry Griffith’s young team had to settle for a reply in the end against more experienced opponents.
26 October 1974
Harry Gregg’s team got hammered 5-1 at Northampton Town in the Football League Fourth Division. Robbie James got the Swans consolation goal as the team remained in 16th place in the table.
